I’m so excited to share this session of a beautiful one-year-old celebrating her birthday with this milestone shoot! I’ve worked with the Benedetto family before, in the fall of 2020. When they reached out to discuss hosting a cake smash during our milestone session, I was thrilled to be taking photos of sweet Olivia and her family again!
Olivia’s mom, Carolyn, is a vet in Garden Oaks and has the most tender, caring demeanor. This is so easy to see when I watch her interact with her baby girl. I imagine she has to be the calmest, sweetest vet in all of Houston!
We took pictures of the Benedetto family in my personal photo studio, which is located in Montrose, aka the heart of the arts district of Houston, Texas. I love being surrounded by such rich history and creativity and it truly inspires me and my clients as we spend time together there. The studio itself was a large brick home that was converted into a commercial space, and it has plenty of big windows and large spaces that allow for loads of natural light and beautiful settings for our pictures. It’s easy for everyone to get comfortable and feel right at home, and that’s what I love about it!
For this family shoot, we took some shots of the entire family and then did Olivia’s one-year-old cake smash at the end of the session. I found this lovely antique high chair that I have as part of the inventory in my studio that clients are welcome to use, and I love how it looked in these photos.
Olivia’s mom brought a couple of different outfits for her and also utilized some pieces borrowed from my studio wardrobe. I love having these pieces on hand because I know they photograph so beautifully and knowing that they can pull items from my studio closet for their session takes a lot of the guesswork and stress surrounding coordinating outfits for pictures out of the equation. The pieces we used for Olivia fit her perfectly!
I loved watching Olivia dig into her cake — she didn’t hesitate at all! This session was a lot of fun because it’s easy to smile around great people like the Benedettos. They trusted my vision and came happy and ready to work some magic. Can’t wait to shoot them again one day!
